Raketu and Firewalls

Some Raketu users might experience problems connecting to the Raketu network due to an installed firewall on their computer. Raketu should work with any firewall and router hardware/software.

The Raketu program has 3 parts (rakOut.exe, Raketu.exe and MessageWave.exe ), which needs unrestricted TCP/HTTP connection on port 80 (like your internet browser), and UDP connection on the port that is assigned by Raketu at installation—Go to: Tools->Options ->Network, top right-hand corner is the port number (example: 53805, yours will be different).
  • If you fail to connect to the Raketu network, it is likely that your firewall is blocking these and you need to open up these connections. In most firewalls, you have to specify a destination port or port range to open, while some other firewalls allow all types of traffic (TCP/HTTP/UDP for example) to/from the internet by simply Allowing the specific Application access through the firewall. If your firewall has this second type of setup, simply Allow Raketu.exe and MessageWave.exe access through your firewall. If not, follow below:
  • Ideally, outgoing TCP/HTTP connections to all ports (1..65535) should be opened. This option results in Raketu working most reliably. This is only necessary for your Raketu to be able to connect to the Raketu network.
  • If the above is not possible, open up outgoing TCP/HTTP connections to port 80.
  • In addition, outgoing/incoming UDP connections to the port identified in your Tools->Options->Network, top right-hand corner is the UDP port number, needs to be opened.
  • If the above is not possible, it is possible to change the UDP port Raketu has assigned to a UDP port that is not blocked, and allow Raketu incoming/outgoing connections through your firewall. To change the port number in Raketu, go to Tools->Options-> Network, and in the top right-hand corner you will find the assigned port number--you can either manually change this number within the range of 1 to 65535, or run the Start Network Test from the Options dialog, that will attempt to automatically detect the issue and change the port accordingly--follow the instructions on the test. After changing the port, click the “Accept button” in the Tools->Options->Network, then Close the dialog, then EXIT Raketu completely and restart.
